Updates for April

Updates on many pages today:

The events calendar has been updated to include the Essay Contest Judging. Events for May and June will be added when the details are finalized.

On the Volunteer/Outreach page, the link for Expanding Your Horizons has been updated. This year's event is Saturday, May 7. Also, a link to the NC Science Olympiad website has been added - the State Tournament is April 29 and 30 at NCSU, and they need volunteers to help run the tournament!

One new Professional Development event has been added:
Innovation in RTP Speaker Series: Open Source Communities - April 13, 2011

Finally, RS&H of North Carolina has won a contract to perform Construction Engineering and Inspection Services for the Fayetteville Outer Loop, and they are seeking Civil Engineers and others in the highway construction inspection field. See the Employment Opportunities page for details.

Updates to Professional Development, Volunteer, and Event pages

There are several updates on the website this week - read on for more details!


We discovered a new source of information this weekend for those of you who have been asking for opportunities to get girls more interested in science and engineering. The website for the Connect a Million Minds initiative includes a listing of of STEM events that you can search by zip code. While not geared specifically towards girls, volunteering at any of these events will show boys that there are many successful women engineers out there! You can also visit our Volunteer/Outreach page for more information.


There are two Girl Scout events in April - one is on April 2 at NCSU and the other is on April 9 at Duke University. The calendar on the Events page has been updated to reflect that these are two different events. Let us know if you'd like to help with either one!


Finally, two new Professional Development events have been added:

It's that time of year again - Eastern NC SWE is kicking off our 17th annual Great Women in Science and Engineering essay contest for fifth grade students! If you or someone you know has students in fifth grade, encourage them to enter - it's a great opportunity for them to learn about the acheivements of women in science and engineering fields.

Updated November meeting and Professional Development Opportunities

Note: The originally scheduled meeting for November was a seminar on “Questions to Ask When Making a Career Transition” at the North Regional Library in Raleigh on November 3, but the seminar was postponed due to a family emergency for the speaker.
